Beltsville couple continues tradition by moving
By Kelly A. ShuePatricia Swerczek always believed she would follow in her parents’ footsteps and move to a community by Erickson. But fears regarding the housing market almost kept her and her husband from calling Riderwood home. Thanks to the help of Erickson Realty & Moving Services, the Swerczeks were able to quickly and profitably sell the Beltsville, Md., house where they had lived for almost 20 years.
Background information
“My parents were early residents of Erickson’s Oak Crest community,” says Swerczek. “As a result, we were very familiar with the Erickson lifestyle. Moving to Riderwood was definitely something we had in the back of our minds, but we weren’t sure whether it would be feasible due to the current housing market.”
Because they lived close to Riderwood, the Swerczeks embraced every opportunity to visit the campus. During a lunch there, they learned about Erickson Realty & Moving Services. It was then that their fears about selling their house were put to rest. “The personal moving consultant was very encouraging,” says Mrs. Swerczek. “She told us our house would sell, and we believed her. She gave us the name of an agent from the same company we used when we moved to Beltsville.”
“Once we made the call to the agent, it was no more than a week before we had a contract in our hands,” says Mr. Swerczek.
“The help was priceless,” adds his wife. “A house identical to ours, located on the end of our street, was for sale at the same time, and it was still on the market for almost six months after our house sold. We had good advice when it came to pricing, and I believe that made a real difference.”
The rest is easy
No longer having to worry about selling their house, the Swerczeks ironed out the logistics of their move with expert advice from someone their personal moving consultant recommended. “She came to our house with the floor plan of our new Riderwood home and helped us determine what we should bring and how it should all be laid out,” says Mrs. Swerczek. “She was very aware of what we wanted. We have a large antique piece that I was afraid we would have to give up in our move, but she made sure that it came with us.”
Moving day “was easier than I could have imagined,” says Mrs. Swerczek. “We spent the night before in a hotel and made our way to Riderwood after lunch. When we got there, we were moved in. Our bed was made, and the linen closet looked like something in a magazine. Everything was taken care of, right down to the placement of the last knickknack.”
Since moving in on December 30, 2009, the Swerczeks have been enjoying new neighbors and keeping up with a busy schedule of volunteer work. He continues to bring bread from a community bakery to local soup kitchens, and she works with the Job Corps providing literacy tutoring in Laurel, Md.
